Ok, so I’m Sick

I went to the Emergency Room this morning because of being sick. I haven’t blogged in awhile, obviously, but I’ve been dealing with some symptoms like a fever two weeks ago and now this week really really sore throat. So when I woke up this morning and could not talk without hurting my throat, my mom took me to work with her to the emergency room. This works out well, seeing as she’s an ER nurse.

It took awhile to be seen. Finally they had my room ready, and I got situated and stuff. The nurse, who was very nice, put a needle in my arm and the IV hookup stuff. She took my blood first though, and I almost fainted. I didn’t think that I had that much of a problem with the blood personally, but apparently my brain just didn’t like it. It was pretty fascinating though seeing it shoot out of my arm into a tube though, it really jets. And it was all red and stuff. Then they put in a drip just to get liquids in me, and I watched Judge Matthias on TV.

Finally, I found out what I have. MONO. Yes, it really really sucks. So at this point I’m not even sure if I can go to school on Tuesday! It also means I can’t go shopping at Mall of America for new school clothes either, which I was really looking forward to doing. So obviously, this news was devastating. In a teenager way, not in the “two weeks to live” way. I might have actually picked up mono in Japan though! Since it actually develops 1-2 months later. Guess I was kissing too many people. Oops.

But I was given some mediciene through my IV, some for the swelling of my tonsils, which are huge. And very gross looking. Then one hour of Judge Maria Lopez and one episode of What I Like About You later, they were ready to release me. The only thing I got out of this was a perscription for a high strength pain killer. But the swelling is down a bit, which is a positive.

It’s just funny that I have mono though. This also means that I can’t kiss anyone now until I’m mono-free. Hmmm, downsides downsides. But tomorrow hopefully I’ll be up to getting a cell phone. Sidekick 3~ Even with its cons and its $200 price tag, I think it’s the phone that fits what I want to do. Otherwise, my current plans are resting. We did talk to both MediaCom and Fronternet, so I’ll be getting Cable or DSL internet next week. MEGA YAY! Or, I should say YATTA, but that would be terribly wapanese of me. Then I can use Windows Live Writer again.

Oh, and I updated to WordPress 2.3 BETA. Which means I can use tags now, and a few more things, which is cool. More cooler for me than you, sorry.

Summer Life

Filed under: Back Home, Re-Adjusting — Paul @ 8:41 pm

So Monday I had to go to the dentist.  I was like deathly afraid.  I mean…I never went in Japan, and stuff…so…I was pretty nervous.  And I did come out with two cavities, so my fears were justified.  One was a spot they had already been watching though, so I only got one cavity in Japan.  I’ll blame it on the less-than-stellar toothpaste.  I swear I brushed for two minutes twice a day.  In fact, my teeth are pretty white now and I’m glad.  Brushing actually does work.

After that I went to student council, and got to see some friends.  It was ok, and only a short meeting.  Then I just went home.   Yudai sent me an email though, and said he’d send me some pictures from down in Georgia, so I’m really excited!  And then that night we got a huge storm, which knocked out our internet for most of Tuesday.  Not fun.

But Tuesday ended up being fun without the internet I suppose.  My sister got to go up to a place near Lakeville and ride a pony for her birthday.  She’s really into this cowgirl idea at the moment.  But my other little sister got to go too, I’m not sure why.  They’re always buddy-buddy though.  Twins separated by two years.  After that I went to Northfield and bought SEAWEED!  YAY!  I love the toasted seaweed, so I had to buy some at this healthy food store.  Plus I bought some fine udon noodles, which will be a VERY poor subsitute for the stuff you can get in Japan.  Next time I’m going to buy soba noodles.

Today I’ve done just about nothing.  BUT, I have updated and reworked the official forums for my blog, so if you want, you can visit/join here!   Pretty slick, huh?  Unfortunately my webcam is actually in the mail, so I can’t use it yet to do a video blog, which sucks.  Not that my internet could even handle it though.  We’re looking into a local cable internet provider, which may be perfect.  Later~

Adjusting

Filed under: Back Home, Japan in America, Re-Adjusting — Paul @ 12:19 am

So, in the coming days, I will blog about adjusting back into life in America.  I’m sorry that blogging has not been part of my daily life now while I’m back home.  Part of it is because I’ve been busy with family that came into Texas, which was really fun.  Part of it is because I am no on very slow dial-up.  And lastly, part of it is because I have yet to install my favorite ‘Windows Live Writer’ application on this desktop.

I fear that now I have nothing more to share with everyone though.  I checked my statistics, and it’s reporting over 200 people visit this site per day, and now I feel bad that I have nothing interesting to say anymore.  I live in a farming town!  There’s only so long that I can milk the adjustment blogs, comparing Japan to life in my town.  Of course, I will be updating some other stuff.  Soon I’ll have a page up with little blurbs about most of the people that were regulars in my daily life.

The cool thing is that I will be seeing my host parents soon!!  That’s right, the Toyookasans are making a short stop in Minneapolis for a connecting flight, and I am getting to see them and hopefully take them out for lunch.  I am EXTREMELY excited!  That will make an interesting blog, and I’m sure the pictures will be pretty cool too.

It’s midnight now.  Why do I stay up so late?  I dunno.  Absolutely terrible habit I picked up in Japan.  I’m not saying midnight is particularly late, but usually I’m up until at least 1 or 2 doing basically nothing.  Right now I have ‘The Deathly Hallows’ to read.  Thank you Kimmy!  My aunt borrowed it to me.

So yep, short blog.  And to the people that care, I do appreciate continued readership, as long as the fact that this is no longer a family-friendly blog is known.  After the adjustment blogs run dry, I’ll delve into the ‘08 elections, school issues, and current events.  But of course, Japan will also stay as a main topic.  I routinely catch up on news.

I keep on thinking I’m finishing this, but one more thing pops up!  As a last note, I wanted to mention that Yudai made it safely to Washington and just went to Seattle on Saturday.  Lucky him, I want to go.  He won’t arrive in Wisconsin for…another 3 weeks or so.  For any of you who are curious.  I have been in email contact with him, and talked to him over the phone though.

Blog’s little late…but home safe!

Filed under: Japan — Paul @ 11:33 pm

I’m actually writing this from Detroit at the moment.  So, I’m not exactly home safe yet, but when this goes up on my blog…I will be.  So hopefully you will read this.

Anyways it is WEIRD to be around so many white people!  They all look the same…just kidding, but they definitely look different than Japanese people.  I miss Japan already.  Americans are also so FAT.  Why?  I’m serious, we need to work on this as a country.  It is not healthy, it will not help your social standings, etc etc.  All around a bad thing.  So let’s all work on being healthy!!

Um, yeah.  I’m sitting at this gate, but there’s another flight here before mine.  Wouldn’t want to accident go to Indianapolis or something…  Yeah, definitely not getting on this flight.  I still have an hour until my boarding time.

I got Caribou Coffee here.  It wasn’t as good as Starbucks though.  I hope that it’s just because it’s at the airport, because otherwise it means that I’ve gotten too used to Starbucks in Japan.  That would be horrible!  Forsaking the Minnesota’s original coffee chain!  There was also a Taco Bell, BUT my parents are taking me there, so I want to go with them.  I can wait.  I think…

The flight over was really boring.  Maybe I got around 3 hours of sleep.  Right now it’s like 2:45 AM in Japan.  So that’s the time I’m running on right now.  My brain is pretty addled though, because of the daylight and stuff here…so I’m definitely a bit mixed up.  Tired, but actually not that tired.  They put the night-like setting early on the plane, so it kind of got the passengers ready.

I haven’t been real impressed with the customs here.  The two guys I went through were nice, but there were also some other people who were yelling at different people and stuff.  I beeped at the gate because of my belt, so that was almost scary.  Almost, but I figured it was my belt.

Oh, and when I was picking up my baggage to go through customs, there were like no problems.  Last time one of my bags was lost, so right now so far so good.  Some lady started putting her bags on my cart though!  I grabbed my second bag, came back, and there were these two other bags with my stuff!  And I’m like…what the heck…  And no one was really around, so I didn’t know who had put it there!  So I just put them on the floor and kind of waited, then this lady came over and she was like ‘Oh, I’m so sorry!’ and I was just kind of laughing.

I’ll get pics sometime later.  I’m just writing because I have nothing else to do.  By the way, this blog WILL continue as my personal one, it just will be about America.  Still read it, or don’t, it’s your choice.  It will tackle more political thoughts though, and be at least a PG-13 rating w/ adult topics.  So it’s not really going to be the family friendly Japan blog anymore.  I want some place to seriously discuss current issues in America.  Like obesity. Just a heads up.  I’ll also continue my video blogs though, and they’ll be Japan-themed.  Yay.

Later~
